The combination of analogue and digital images; the increase of vision by sound and vice versa; the interval between fiction and reality. This is how Maarten reflect upon the life and society that surrounds him.
His day-to-day activities form the basis of his works: a wide scale of subjects, that appeal to the sentiments of a wide audience. It’s a challenge for him to elevate quite common topics by portraying them in a different perspective. He is fascinated by the interference of fiction and reality: where does reality end and fiction start? Is it possible to clearly distinguish one from another? Therefore the use of animation in his films plays a major role.
The world of music videos, commercials and short films hold the pleasant advantage that the story is secondary to the statement: mood and emotion demand the leading role.
