Jolan van der Wiel at DMY
This week at DMY Jolan van der Wiel presented the Gravity Stool, which has been selected for the DMY Award.
Departing from the idea that everything is necessarily influenced by gravity, a force that exerts a powerful shaping effect, Jólan van der Wiel intended to manipulate this natural phenomenon by exploiting the force underlying its own power: magnetism. The positioning of the magnetic fields in the machine, in opposition to one another, determines the final shape of the Gravity Stool. Jólan’s products are characterized by their freakish and organic shapes, forms that are in fact so typical of nature itself.
