The Gerrit Rietveld Academie is an independent university of applied sciences with approximately 1000 students. The Rietveld Academie offers two degree programmes – Autonomous Fine Arts and Design – which incorporate the various specialisations. The specialisations are led by coordinators who are responsible for the study programme and day-to-day affairs. Some two hundred lecturers are affiliated with the academy. Lecturers all work on a part-time basis and are also independent artists or designers.
The everyday management of the academy is the responsibility of the Executive Board and three directors. Together these form the Management Team, which consists of the following members: Tijmen van Grootheest, Chairman of the Executive Board; Jurgen Bey, Director of Masters (Sandberg Instituut); Ben Zegers, Director of Bachelors; Annelies van Eennennaam, Director of Operations
The Executive Board is supported by a compact support organisation, consisting of a secretarial department, two policy officials and the departments of Human Resources, Financial Affairs, Facility Services and Student Affairs.
